All the fun things internet has to offer

There is a new way to become famous. To make friends. To start a relationship. To start a virtual relationship. And then break up. To be a journalist. To be a writer. It’s the American dream, that finally came true.

Nowadays, everybody is a member of something like MySpace, Facebook or (in the Netherlands) Hyves. A new way of social networking, online socializing. We all know how internet started, web 1.0. Internet was a way to find your information. That was all. You couldn’t give feedback, it was an one-way communication. Now we have web 2.0, which is sharing, watching and giving comments, two-way communication. It is interactive. And most important, instead of web 1.0, nowadays internet is fun.

Let me explain more what I’m talking about when I say ‘web 2.0’. Web 2.0 is the internet we know nowadays. A few good examples of this are: YouTube, MySpace, BlogSpot etc. Let’s take YouTube: I upload a video, on which you give a video-reaction and then I comment on that video of yours. Or if you go to bol.com, you can give a comment on a book you’ve read. When I want to order a book, and I see different positive comments, then the chance that I’m actually going to buy it, is much bigger. So is this new internet also very positive for companies like bol.com. This all is what I mean with the nowadays, interactive, internet.        Even what I’m doing now, writing a blog, is a part of this web 2.0. I write a blog, post it on my weblog and you can give your comment. After that, I can give my reaction on your comment. What also the case with blogs is that you can put tags under it. Those are the one-word descriptions under the blog, where you can click on. Than you can see all the blogs within that specific category.

This is all a lot of fun, but there is more. When you, as a band, had to do thousands of auditions in the past, now you can simply put your music on MySpace.

Like this band, The Arctic Monkeys, became famous by uploading their music on MySpace! And this is just one of the many examples of bands/singers who became famous via the internet. Also is the internet uses as a tool for musicians to keep contact with their fans.

Not only can you listen to music on MySpace, you can now also listen to music about MySpace. Watch it, it’s very funny!
